Anxiety is usually painful, caused by uncertainty, waiting. If it is normal to feel punctual anxiety, it becomes pathological when it is manifested excessively in relation to the real threat or when it settles in the long term and disrupts durably everyday life . We then talk about anxiety disorders , which include, among others, generalised anxiety and panic attacks (also called anxiety attacks)
Generalized anxiety, also called "generalized anxiety disorder" is a chronic form, with a state of constant worry,difficult to control, and without a precise object. It causes difficulties to reason and control his concerns, as well as symptoms such as agitation, irritability, difficulty concentrating, memory and sleep disorders, muscle tension.
Anxiety , intervenes as for it punctually but very intense , in the form of " crisis ". These panic attacks , which can be associated with generalized anxiety, appear in a brutal and unpredictable way. We will then feel an intense fear with the feeling of losing control or even dying, an immediate danger of feeling and very unpleasant physical sensations (palpitations, feeling of choking, sweating, trembling, general malaise ...). When repeated, these fits can be part of a panic disorder , where the subject is also very afraid to get another anxiety attack. Note that this disorder affects more women than men.
