RELIEVE PRESSURE ULCERS(BEDSORES) WITH ESSENTIAL OILS
Pressure ulcers are sores caused by immobility and prolonged crushing of the skin on a hard surface, mainly affecting the elderly, bedridden or wheelchair, especially if they have lost their natural mobility (coma, paralysis) or if they suffer from health concerns.
HOW IS PRESSURE ULCERS DEVELOPING?
During prolonged immobility, the layers of skin are under pressure between the bed or the chair and the bones, resulting in the formation of pressure ulcers at the points of support: lower back, buttocks, heels, but also sometimes elbows, shoulder blades or the top of the skull. This pressure crushes the blood vessels deeply and the blood does not irrigate tissues that will quickly run out of oxygen. As it continues, the tissues die and become necrotic.
In practice, two hours are enough for the formation of bedsores, but they begin in a silent way: they develop first deep in the muscles and then reach the different layers of the skin. At first, we observe a red and painful area. If it is prolonged, the skin becomes necrotic, becomes black, papery, insensitive to the touch. Then, the skin becomes hollow and the muscular and bone damage are important. If bed rest persists, the eschar does not heal spontaneously; on the contrary, it can spread and, above all, become infected.
HOW TO RELIEVE PRESSURE ULCERS AND FACILITATE HEALING WITH ESSENTIAL OILS?
The first thing to do is to avoid the appearance of bedsores : frequent change of position, massage of the parts in contact with the surfaces, good hydration and nutritional contribution.
If pressure ulcers are already present, they do not heal spontaneously because they are no longer irrigated. Synergies based on essential oils for healing purposes ( Lavender ), cutaneous antiseptic ( Bay Leaf ) will be used to accelerate the healing of pressure ulcers.
