ALLERGIES, AWARENESS AND REVELATION
Allergies are hypersensitivity reactions of our body to certain substances found in the air, in cosmetics, food or drugs: allergens . Upon contact, our immune system reacts violently with an inappropriate response. They are revealed after an awareness phase during which no symptoms are detectable.
CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS
- The immediate allergy develops if there is a genetic predisposition to allergies, it is called "atopic terrain". It can be respiratory, cutaneous, ocular and appears from a few minutes to two or three hours after contact with the allergen.
At the cutaneous level, it is manifested by attacks of atopic eczema or urticaria, with localized swelling on the face. The allergy can sometimes affect the mucous membranes of the throat: it is Quincke's edema, which is a medical emergency.
The allergens often responsible are: eggs, cow's milk, some fish and crustaceans, some dried fruits, bee venom, wasp ...
- The delayed allergy can affect everyone, even in the absence of genetic breeding ground for allergies. It affects the skin on which a contact eczema appears in response to the allergen.
The allergens frequently involved are: nickel (costume jewelery), the components of certain hair dyes, preservatives, perfumes, certain drugs in local application ...
